6th Class SESE Tour
6th Class History, Geography & Science Walk
Our 6th Class had a fantastic day out exploring Portmarnock on their recent History, Geography and Science walk. The sun was shining, and the weather couldn’t have been better as the children set off to discover some of the fascinating landmarks and natural features right on our doorstep.
The walk brought them through many important local sites, each with its own story to tell. They visited the Old Tin Church, learning about its history and unique structure, before moving on to the Old Mill and the Old Portmarnock Golf Club, both full of heritage and character.
Out along the coastline, the class enjoyed stunning views of Lambay Island, Howth Head, and the Martello Tower, while also learning about the natural beauty of the sand dunes and how they protect our shoreline. The walk also brought them up Paddy’s Hill, giving everyone a chance to take in the scenery and reflect on the rich history of the area. Finally, they visited the Old Church and Graveyard, which gave them a real sense of Portmarnock’s past.
It was a brilliant trip that combined history, geography and science in the best way possible – by getting outside and experiencing it all first-hand. The children were engaged, curious and enthusiastic throughout, making it a very memorable day for everyone.
A huge well done to 6th Class for their excellent behaviour and participation – and of course, thanks to the teachers for organising such a valuable learning experience.
