Marnock's Music Group Update
It has been a very busy term for Marnock's Music Group. The Waltons, Lyric FM Music for Schools competition details were announced just before Christmas. The theme of this year's competition is "Rhythm Rules" and the entry deadline is March 20th. Entry to the competition is by way of a video recording of the group performing up to five minutes of original or cover music.
Some new members were recruited and group rehearsals were scheduled. Brainstorming for ideas amongst Ms. Kenealy, Mr. Maughan, Ms. Murphy and group members produced some wonderful ideas that centred around two contrasting ideas of conforming to the rules of rhythm and breaking the rules to explore your own creativity.
After group rehearsals, many Whatsapp messages and lunchtime jam sessions, the group were ready to record the video in the hall in early March. This was done over two mornings and the teachers were delighted at how well the children performed a complex piece that involves shifts in tempo, key and rhythm.
The finalists of the competition will be announced on Wednesday 15th April. Teachers and group members are hopeful that their piece has what it takes to make it.
In the meantime, here is a little taster of what the group are capable of. They had recorded the video entry on the morning of Wednesday 5th March but still had a rehearsal scheduled for after school. Instead of focussing on the competition song again, they decided to pick some songs they all knew and try them out. Zombie by the Cranberries was one they tried and the recording below is only their second take!
