Our Senior Teams Push On! 🏐💪
It’s been another incredible week for St. Marnock’s sport as both our Senior Boys and Senior Girls football teams battled their way through the CnmB Átha Cliath quarter-finals — and what a week it was!
Senior Girls: Grit, Heart, and a Titanic Battle in Naomh Mearnóg
On Wednesday, our Senior Girls faced off against a superb St. Fiachra’s side in Naomh Mearnóg — and what a game it turned out to be! The girls facing Mr Spellacy's and Mr Scallan's old school.
Conditions were wild, with a wind like a wolf’s howl blowing from the clubhouse end out to the sea on Pitch 5. The girls won the toss and bravely chose to play into the gale for the first half.
The opening 25 minutes were intense. With a huge crowd cheering on both sides, our girls stood firm under relentless pressure and went into the break just three points down — a heroic effort considering the storm they faced (literally and figuratively!).
After halftime, with the wind in their sails, the girls showed unbelievable fight, grit, and skill. They stormed back into the game and edged ahead in a thrilling second half. Even a late penalty for St. Fiachra’s couldn’t break their resolve. The final whistle blew to scenes of joy and pride — a hard-earned victory and a place in the semi-finals!
Senior Boys: Rising to the Challenge in Holy Trinity
Not to be outdone, our Senior Boys took to the field on Thursday in an away clash against Holy Trinity.
The lads were feeling the heat before the game — the Senior Girls had already booked their semi-final spot and made sure to remind the boys of it during yard, adding a bit of friendly pressure!
It took a few minutes for the team to settle (and to decipher Mr. Doherty’s Donegal accent 😄), but once they did, they took control. A powerful spell before halftime turned the tide, and the boys carried that momentum into a brilliant second half.
They showed huge effort, teamwork, and determination, finishing strongly to secure their own place in next week’s semi-finals. What a response!
Looking Ahead
Both our Senior teams now march proudly into their semi-finals next week, representing St. Marnock’s with passion, pride, and spirit.
A massive GRMA to all our players, coaches, and supporters — the energy around the school is electric, and we couldn’t be prouder of our teams.
