Science experiment in Fifth class

29th Sep 2022

We did a cool science experiment in Mr. Maughan's class this week. We needed balloons, baking soda, vinegar, plastic bottles, food colouring and a teaspoon.

First we spooned some baking soda into two balloons using a funnel. Then we put some vinegar into the bottles with some food colouring. Then we attached the balloons to the tops of the plastic bottles. When we were ready we tipped the balloon contents into the bottle to see what would happen. The vinegar and soda made a chemical reaction and started fizzing. This produced carbon dioxide which made the balloons inflate.

We then learned about acids and bases and what happens when you mix them.
