Ladies Gaelic Football Recap

5th Oct 2023

In the 23/24 school year, St Marnocks NS entered two teams into the CnmB competitions. The school entered a Junior team into the first ever Go Games CnmB Ladies Football competition. This team was represented by girls in 5th class. The school Senior team was entered in the Corn Austin Finn and represented by girls in 6th class.

Our Senior team had a tough year. They were involved in three tough games. Our first game was against Rush NS. It was a titanic battle and a very close game up in Naomh Mearnóg. Our girls fell just short on the day, but showed off their fantastic skills and team work on the day. Our next game was against Pope John Paul, a local derby. a replay of the Fingal Final back in June, PJP proved to be to strong for us on the day. While our performance was much improved again from our first match, it wasn't enough to match the PJP girls. Our girls have trained hard since the start of September, once they came back to school. All their effort in training was shown on the pitch against Holy Family in our final group game. We had a fantastic win on the day. Our girls worked extremely hard and showed off their skill on the day.

Our Go Games Girls took part in the Go Games N2 competition. This was the first year of this competition ever in the CnmB. The girls were due to play 3 games but were only able to play two due to another school pulling out of the competition due to unforeseen circumstances. The girls took part in two games. Our first game was against Belgrove SGNS and our second game was against St. Brigids NS, Castlenock. Our first game against Belgrove was a tough game but our girls showed great resilience and skill to fight hard on the day. They were a fantastic credit to their school on the day. Our second game was up in Naomh Mearnóg, where our girls had an exciting win on the day. They were fantastic and showed off their skill. They showed off their skill and similar to the Senior Girls Team, trained hard in the morning every week in September.

We are proud to say as a school, we had forty six (46) girls in total play football this year across 5th and 6th class. They represented their school with great pride and skill every time they pulled the St Marnocks jersey on. At every game, each player got their time on the pitch, showing how talented our group of girls are in the school. We also had 6 girls begin to play GAA thanks to the effort being put in by the teams in school.

As teachers, we would like to say a big thank you to Naomh Mearnóg GAA for accommodating the school, to the all the referees, and to all the parents for supplying lifts, support and most importantly washing jerseys.

A massive thank you to the teachers, Ms Lalor, Ms Dillon, Mr Barnes, and Mr Spellacy for helping out with the teams throughout.

Maith sibh!
